Taking care of our planet is very important, but moving might not be that friendly to the environment. However, we want to share a few eco-friendly moving tips that you should consider.
Pack inventory in the used boxes
You can find good quality used boxes in grocery and other stores. All it takes is to ask the employee if they have empty boxes in the back of the store. If they have them, there won’t be any problem to give them to you for free.
Also, if your friend has recently moved, you can take her or his boxes. We do not doubt that your friend would be grateful that you take them instead of looking for a way to get rid of them. Besides, you can also ask if your friend has a leftover packing tape.
Use things instead of packing material
Reusable tote bags, t-shirts, towels, and linens can be used as a protective material for fragile items, such as vases, frames, etc. If you have lots of plastic bags from shops, they can do the job too.
If you get a daily newspaper, it can be used as a packing material too. If you think and save in advance, you might not even need to buy any special packing paper.
However, if you still feel the need to buy packing materials, you should still avoid buying and using packing peanuts. This material includes polystyrene that is terrible not only for the environment but might be dangerous for your health too.
De-clutter before the move
Take a look at what you have and ask yourself – do you really need all of these things? Probably, not. Moving is a great opportunity to reduce the amount of stuff that only takes place. We shared a detailed decluttering guide here.
Decluttering is great because you will need a smaller truck for relocation and it’s a little thing that you can do for the planet’s health.
Pack snacks or meals for the trip
You will definitely get hungry during the move. There’s no doubt that you can find lots of restaurants, cafes, and fast food carts. Yes, there are many places where you can eat delicious food. But, eco-friendly moving ideas include healthy lifestyle choices too. Therefore, instead of stopping for french fries and big hamburger, you should prepare lunch boxes with healthy snacks. It’s for your own good!
Give away packing supplies after the move
Once you unpack everything, you will be left with a bunch of boxes and packing material. Instead of throwing everything away, you should give them away for people who are planning the move. Where to find them? Post on various Facebook groups, ask friends, co-workers or neighbors – you will soon find a person who will take everything from you.
