Estate Distribution Services in Northern Virginia, Washington DC & Maryland

After the loss of a loved one, the house is full of decisions no one is ready to make. Furniture to family members in different states. Auctions for the antiques. Donations for what no one needs. Trash for what cannot be saved. At Call The Movers we do not believe in estate clear-out. We provide compassionate, coordinated estate distribution — one experienced team, one point of contact, every detail handled with the dignity these belongings deserve.

What Our Estate Distribution Services Include

From the first walk-through to the final sweep of an empty home, we handle every piece of the estate:

  • Evaluation of furniture, art, antiques, and valuables — with photographs, inventory, and recommendations on what is worth selling, donating, or distributing
  • Family distribution — packing, crating, and shipping items to family members across the country, coordinated against the schedule and preferences each family member needs
  • Auction coordination — partnering with reputable regional auction houses for antiques, fine art, jewelry, and collectibles
  • Charitable donations — coordinated with vetted local DMV charities, with itemized receipts for the estate’s records
  • Assistance with other selling options — consignment shops, estate sales, online listings, and direct buyer referrals depending on item type and timeline
  • Full junk removal, hauling, and estate cleanout — old furniture, broken appliances, mattresses, electronics, decades of accumulated belongings, garage and basement contents, and anything that cannot be sold, donated, or distributed. Same-day hauling available; we leave the home empty and swept, with no leftover sorting work for the family
  • Recycling and responsible disposal — for everything that cannot be sold, donated, or distributed
  • Estate Transition Solutions — a personalized written proposal, customized inventory, and strategic counseling so the family understands every option before any decision is made
  • Home preparation for sale — through our trusted partner network: cleaning, power washing, landscaping, painting, full remodeling, and staging when needed to ready the property for the market

We Work With Your Professional Team

Estate distribution rarely happens in isolation. We routinely coordinate with the professionals already handling the estate — attorneys handling probate, trustees and executors carrying out the will, realtors preparing the property for sale, financial planners advising the family, regional auction houses, appraisers, and accountants. Tell us who is on your team and we work directly with them so you do not have to relay every detail twice.

How the Process Works

Every estate is different. The shape of the work is the same:

  1. Free in-home consultation. We walk through the home with you, the executor, or the trustee. We listen first, then make recommendations based on what you actually need.
  2. Written estimate. You receive a personalized written plan — what stays in the family, what goes to auction, what is donated, what is disposed of. Itemized labor and material costs, separately, so you see exactly what each piece of work costs.
  3. Coordinated execution. We schedule pickups, deliveries, donations, auction transports, and recycling around the family’s timeline. One point of contact through the entire process.
  4. Final walk-through. The home is left swept and ready for sale, rental, transition, or staging — or for the next step in the estate plan.

Frequently Asked Questions — Estate Distribution

How does estate distribution differ from a regular move?

A regular move takes one household’s belongings from address A to address B. Estate distribution disperses one household across many destinations — family members in different states, auction houses, donation centers, consignment shops, and disposal — typically under emotional and legal time pressure. The logistics, paperwork, and coordination are different from a standard move, which is why we treat it as a dedicated service.

Do you work directly with attorneys, executors, and trustees?

Yes. We routinely coordinate with the legal and financial professionals already representing the estate. We can communicate directly with the attorney handling probate, the trustee carrying out the will, the realtor preparing the property for sale, and the accountant tracking the estate’s expenses. Itemized invoices are provided for the estate’s records.

What about items the family is not sure what to do with?

That is normal. During the in-home consultation we provide recommendations — what is worth selling, what should go to auction, what is best donated, what cannot be saved. The family makes the final call on every item. Nothing is moved or disposed of without explicit direction from the family or the executor.

Do you handle full home cleanouts — including the junk and trash, not just the valuables?

Yes. A full home cleanout is one of the most common parts of estate distribution. After the family has taken what they want and the auction and donation pickups are done, decades of accumulated belongings usually remain — old furniture, mattresses, broken appliances, garage contents, basement clutter, expired paint and chemicals. We haul all of it: items recycled where possible, e-waste and hazardous waste handled correctly, the rest disposed of in line with local DMV regulations. The home is left empty and swept, ready for sale, rental, or transfer.

What areas do you serve?

All of Northern Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland. For family distribution we ship to anywhere in the continental US and internationally.
